Berwyn Early Learning Academy is a growing early childhood program committed to nurturing curious minds, kind hearts, and brave spirits. Our center provides a safe, caring, and engaging environment where children grow through exploration, play, and developmentally appropriate learning.

As a ministry of Berwyn United Methodist Church, BELA seeks to serve families from a wide range of backgrounds while fostering a welcoming and supportive community. This position offers a meaningful opportunity for a leader who values both strong operational management and the relational heart of early childhood education.

The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of center operations, including licensing compliance, staff supervision, enrollment management, program quality, and family engagement. This leader will help guide the continued development of BELA while ensuring a stable, nurturing, and well-run learning environment.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership for the early learning center and its programs.
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • Maintain compliance with all Pennsylvania childcare licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee curriculum implementation and classroom quality.

Staff Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise teachers and support staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing ratios and scheduling.

Enrollment and Program Growth

  • Develop strategies to increase enrollment across infant, toddler, preschool, and pre-K programs.
  • Work with church leadership on marketing and community outreach.
  • Represent the center to prospective families and community partners.
  • Support tours, enrollment processes, and family onboarding.

Operations and Administration

  • Manage day-to-day center operations.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and compliance with state requirements.
  • Work with church leadership on budgeting and financial sustainability.
  • Oversee supplies, classroom resources, and facility needs.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with families and caregivers.
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive community environment.
  • Communicate regularly with families about programs and activities.
  • Address parent questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in early childhood education leadership or childcare center management.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania childcare licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead staff.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for children and families.

Preferred

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience serving as a childcare center director or assistant director.
  • Experience with enrollment management and program growth.
  • Experience building strong family relationships in early childhood programs.

Working Conditions

This position requires active involvement in a childcare environment. The Executive Director will regularly work in classrooms and throughout the center interacting with children, staff, and families.

The role also requires moving between classrooms and office areas throughout the day, occasionally lifting or carrying materials or supplies related to program activities, and participating in meetings, tours with prospective families, and community engagement events.

Some evening responsibilities may occasionally be required for meetings, events, or family engagement activities.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the school.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.
