Part Time Worship Leader
Berwyn United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Worship Leader to provide strong musical and spiritual leadership in shaping Christ-centered, participatory worship.
We are a welcoming, relational congregation with a clear vision for growth and deeper discipleship. While we are currently modest in size, we are building toward a vibrant and engaging worship life, and this role offers the opportunity to help shape that future.
We are looking for a leader who brings both musical excellence and spiritual depth — someone with a servant’s heart and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ who can guide the congregation in worship that bridges traditional Methodist heritage with thoughtful contemporary expression.

Responsibilities
Worship Leadership
- Plan and lead music for weekly Sunday worship services
- Select songs that align with sermon themes, the liturgical calendar, and the theological vision of the church
- Lead with strong vocal and instrumental ability while encouraging active congregational participation
- Introduce worship elements with clarity, warmth, and theological awareness
- Model authentic spiritual engagement from the platform
Worship Planning & Collaboration
- Meet regularly with the Pastor to coordinate service themes and flow
- Contribute creatively to the overall worship experience
- Assist in planning and leading seasonal services (Advent, Christmas Eve, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, etc.)
- Communicate clearly with volunteers and church leadership
Development of Worship Ministry
- This position offers the opportunity to build and shape a worship ministry over time in a supportive and collaborative environment.
- Foster an environment where worship is participatory rather than performance-driven
- Encourage intergenerational involvement in worship leadership
Rehearsal & Musical Preparation
- Organize and lead rehearsals as needed
- Ensure musical arrangements are accessible and well-prepared
- Maintain musical excellence appropriate to the congregation’s context
Administrative & Technical Responsibilities
- Prepare slides/lyrics for worship services
- Maintain CCLI reporting and music licensing compliance
- Coordinate basic worship technology (sound, slides, livestream collaboration as needed)
- Steward music ministry resources responsibly
Qualifications
Spiritual & Relational Qualifications
- A mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Servant-hearted, humble, and teachable
- Strong communication skills
- A heart for discipleship and mentoring
- Desire to build authentic Christian community
- Commitment to creating worship environments where all are welcomed and invited into participation
Musical Qualifications
- Strong vocal leadership ability
- Proficiency in piano or guitar preferred
- Ability to lead both traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs
- Ability to teach new music to a congregation
- Experience leading in a structured worship setting preferred
Preferred (Not Required)
- Formal musical and/or theological training
- Familiarity with Wesleyan/Methodist theology
- Basic knowledge of worship technology (sound systems, presentation software, livestreaming)
- Experience building or developing volunteer worship teams
