Call to Worship

Leader: Come, not because you have earned a place here, but because God has made a place for you.
People: We come trusting in the grace of Jesus Christ.

Leader: Come, not because your faith is perfect, but because Christ is faithful.
People: We come to receive what we could never earn.

Leader: Come, you who are certain and you who are searching, you who are strong and you who are weary.
People: We come because the good news is for us all.

Leader: This is the gospel of grace: in Jesus Christ, we are welcomed, loved, and set free.
People: Thanks be to God! Let us worship together.

Prayer of Confession

Gracious God, you offer us a love we cannot earn and a grace we cannot deserve. Yet we confess how easily we turn your gift into something to prove, achieve, or protect. We measure ourselves against others. We draw lines between those who belong and those who do not. We judge ourselves when we fall short and judge others when they do not meet our expectations. Forgive us for adding conditions to the grace you freely give. Free us from the need to prove ourselves, and teach us to trust the good news of Jesus Christ: that we are loved, welcomed, and made new by your grace. Amen.

Leader: Hear the good news: we do not have to earn what God has already given us in Jesus Christ. God's grace is not a reward for those who have done enough; it is a gift freely given. In Christ, we are forgiven. In Christ, we are welcomed. In Christ, we are set free.
